Was bedeutet Literatur im Angesicht von Massaker und Genozid? Welches Leben kann Poesie entfalten, wenn bei der Beschreibung und Verarbeitung von Genoziden die Sprache versagt? Wie kann der literarische Text in, mit und gegenüber dem Tempo, der Text- und Bilderflut einer rasanten Social Media bestehen und die Opfer vor dem Vergessenwerden bewahren? Der 7. Oktober 2023 und seine Folgen fordern eine Orts- und Standortbestimmung von der Literatur und ihren Systemen. Welche Rolle spielt dabei die deutsche Sprache und der deutsche Sprachraum? Hat nicht zuletzt die Literaturwissenschaft auf deutschem Boden eine besondere Verantwortung und liegt in der Herausforderung, dem Antisemitismus zu begegnen, auch die Chance für eine neue Theoriebildung? What does literature mean in the face of massacre and genocide? What life can poetry unfold when language fails to describe and process genocide? How can the literary text survive in, with and against the pace, the flood of texts and images of a fast-paced social media and save the victims from being forgotten? October 7th, 2023 and its consequences require literature and its systems to take stock of their place and position. What role do the German language and the German-speaking world play in this? Last but not least, does literary studies have a special responsibility on German ground and does the challenge of confronting antisemitism also present an opportunity for new theory formation?
